杜氏锤尾凤蝶是一种分布于中南半岛地区的艳丽凤蝶，其中海南亚种Losaria doubledayi insperatus (Joicey & Talbot, 1921)为我国海南岛的特有亚种，原为锤尾凤蝶Losaria coon的亚种，近年来的分类学文章（Xu et al., 2020）根据形态学特征和分子证据将锤尾凤蝶和杜氏锤尾凤蝶Losaria doubledayi分开后，其成为杜氏锤尾凤蝶的亚种。该蝶仅分布于海南岛的低海拔丘陵区域，是杜氏锤尾凤蝶种遗传分化较为显著的一个亚种，与泰国、老挝、越南和马来西亚的其他亚种明显不同。因其分布区域狭小，目前该蝶已被列为中国国国家二级保护物种，但世界自然保护联盟的红色物种评估尚未更新。鉴于其分布区域狭小和遗传背景特殊的原因，加之其栖息地受人类活动影响较大，商业化采集日益严重等因素，加强该蝶的保护迫在眉睫。
